The Power of Love and Perserverance

As I endeavor to spread the awareness of issues through film and photography, films like the following give me inspiration and motivation.  It is a beautiful thing when people are able to see and understand the perseverance of others around the world.  With social media, we are able to shed light on global problems and hardships in the lives of others, while also showing how people rise up out of difficult circumstances.  Although only a few people are spotlighted in a population of seven billion people, their stories cause people to act.  People in these films influence others to do what they can to make a difference and this effects entire communities.

Watch the trailers for the Blood Brother documentary, directed by Steve Hoover.  I was crying halfway through the first trailer, this film exemplifies the power of love.  While working at an AIDS hostel in India, Rocky Braat finds love and joy in the mist of sickness and poverty.

Directed by Kief Davidson, Open Heart follows eight Rwandan children who have rheumatic heart disease on their journey to Africa's only free of charge cardiac hospital, the Salam Center, to receive open heart surgery.  This story not only focuses on the children who are fighting for their lives, but also the doctors whom are fighting for the hospital.

These are a couple of documentaries that were shown at the Envision Film Program this week.
